In the course of discharging roles assigned to them by law, most government parastatals have been criticized for poor performance. Both government and the wider public have often been disappointed with the performance of government parastatals. The management challenges in government parastatals and their possible solutions were the main focus of this study. History tells us that our fore fathers offered hospitality services to stranger’s willingly. They were in the habit of being their brothers keepers. Nigerians are naturally endowed with hospitality disposition, the ideals of love, brotherhood and sisterhood. Our forefathers practiced hospitality even before the arrival of the white man; however, it was the colonialists that commercialized hospitality as trade and commerce. The colonial masters established catering rest houses which provided the needs of their members. The hospitality industry is a large industry bound to have some problems affecting it, which include poor service delivery, finance, poor management, adequate facilities, and communication gap, according to this research work. In the course of discharging roles assigned to them by law most government parastatals have been criticized for poor performance. Both government and the wider public have often been disappointed with the performance of government parastatals. The management problems in government parastatals and their possible solutions are the main focus of this study. For this report, some of the enterprises owned by Imo State government were studied, from the study it was established that the problems of parastatals range from background and pattern of appointment of board of directors, poor funding and excessive government interference. The simple percentage ratio and the chi-square were used and the result of the finding show that; there is a positive and significant relationship between frequent government interference in the administration, and successful management of parastatals. There is a positive and significant relationship between lack of strategic planning and the overall performance of parastatals. It is recommended that privatization of government enterprises would to some extent increase the level of efficiency and performance of governmental parastatals.
